There was never going to be a baby blue nursery in our home.
We’ve always been drawn to muted, earthy tones — textures that feel lived-in, cozy, and calm. So when we started designing our baby’s space, we wanted it to feel like a natural extension of our home, not something out of a big box store catalog.
When Mercer made his entrance on February 26 (after a birth that was anything but peaceful — more on that in Mercer’s birth story here), we fell in love with his baby room all over again.
It became more than just a nursery. It became a haven — for slow mornings, long nights, and everything in between.
But let’s get to the reason you’re here — the design details, the cozy textures, and all the earthy nursery inspiration I know you’re craving.
Earthy, Muted Tones, Gender Neutral baby room
I love the mountains of Colorado and the PNW trees. That mountains feel like home.
We’re just your every day lame, ex-emo kid, 90’s hipster parents.
We love being outside, and loving on our animals (3 cats + a snake). So, it was only fitting for us to introduce our baby to the things we love to..
Design Pieces
Some pieces I stole from my parent’s house.. like the fake evergreen trees. I wish I was better at keeping real plants alive, but hey you win some, you lose some.
Other pieces I sourced from garage sales + online!
Want to steal some of my design finds, I have my amazon storefront set up here!
When I look at Mercer’s room, it feels like home.
His room is cozy from the wood paneling that I painted a warm white. It has this feeling of a different time era almost.
My favorite part about his room would probably be the leather curtain holders that my brother made by hand.
He can’t wait to take Mercer fishing when he’s a little bit older.
National Parks That Inspired Our Design Choices
As an elopement photographer, I spend a lot of time in wild, beautiful places — and our home reflects that. From deep forest greens to muted desert neutrals, we designed Mercer’s nursery around the tones and textures of our favorite national parks.
Instead of bright primary colors or baby blues, we leaned into:
- Moody greens and browns inspired by the Hoh Rainforest and Olympic National Park
- Soft clay and sand tones pulled from desert trips through Utah and the Southwest
- Natural wood finishes and linen textures that echo the cabins and lookouts we’ve stayed in over the years
These spaces aren’t just backdrops for elopements — they’ve shaped how we see color, light, and comfort. We wanted Mercer’s room to feel like one of those peaceful places: rooted in nature, full of intention, and totally unplugged from the noise.
Want Me as Your Elopement Photographer? LOVE THAT.
