How Much Does an Elopement Photographer Cost?

Let’s talk money—because transparency builds trust.

If you’re here, it’s probably because you’re seriously considering eloping (yay!) and you want to know what this whole photographer thing is going to cost. Smart. Because your budget matters, and knowing what you’re paying for helps you feel confident in who you hire.

Spoiler alert: this post isn’t just a number drop. It’s a look behind the scenes of what elopement photography really includes, what drives the cost, and why it’s about way more than just showing up with a camera.

What Actually Goes Into Elopement Photography Pricing?

Most people think they’re just paying for a few hours of someone taking pictures. But when you’re hiring a legit elopement photographer, especially for an adventure elopement or destination wedding, you’re actually investing in:

  • Location research & permits (so you don’t get booted mid-vows)
  • Custom timeline planning
  • Photo coverage with multiple camera systems (I shoot digital, 35mm film, and usually sneak in BTS video too)
  • Editing hundreds of photos to tell your full story
  • Travel & lodging (especially for remote elopement spots)
  • Vendor recs, backup plans, emotional support… basically a Type A fairy godmother with a camera

Average Elopement Photography Pricing in the US

Let’s get to the numbers. On average:

  • Elopement photography in the US ranges from $3,000 to $10,000+
  • Short 1-4 hour coverage usually runs $2,500–$4,000
  • Full-day elopements (8–12+ hours) are typically $5,500–$10,000
  • Destination elopements (like Hawaii, the Rockies, or Europe) may include travel fees or flat-rate packages

But averages only tell part of the story.

Why Prices Vary (and What That Means For You)

Here’s what can affect the final quote:

  • Location: Travel logistics, permits, and local cost of living all factor in
  • Coverage Time: A 3-hour shoot is not the same as a 12-hour all-day storytelling experience
  • Photographer Experience: Someone who’s done 100+ elopements vs. someone just starting out
  • Add-ons: Think second shooter, film rolls, or even multi-day coverage

This is why it’s key to look beyond the number and ask: What’s actually included? Do I feel taken care of? Because the right photographer is also your guide, your calm presence, and your biggest advocate all day.

My Elopement Packages: What You Get

For me personally:

  • Midwest elopements start at $4,800 for 6-hour coverage
  • Most of my couples book full-day coverage (10+ hours) between $5,500 and $8,500
  • Destination packages (Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, New Hampshire) often range from $8,000 to $10,500 and include travel, timeline support, location help, and film + digital gallery

If we’re hanging out for the whole day, I want you to feel fully taken care of. That’s why my full-day packages include custom location scouting, all permits handled, timeline design, and more. (Oh and snacks. Always snacks.)

This Isn’t Just About Photos—It’s About Peace of Mind

You’re not booking me to pose you like prom and bounce. You’re hiring someone who knows the trailhead, has an extra rain jacket, gets teary during your vows, and makes sure your day flows with ease.

Your photos should look like you. But more than that? They should feel like you. That kind of magic takes planning, attention, and connection.
