How to legally get married in Utah – One with me, because I am ordained so I can do your ceremony and your photography! Two let’s dive into the complete logistics needed for your dream elopement in this crazy beautiful state.
You decided to elope, but now what? Well let’s make it legal with your marriage license!
No matter where you want to get married in the states, you have to get a marriage license in the state you are legally doing the ceremony.
So if you want to legally get married in Utah, you have to obtain a license from a county clerk in Utah!
Then once the ceremony is over, everyone signs, submits the license back, and you will officially get your marriage certificate. One thing about Utah is they are digital! So when you apply, you will get a QR code link for your officiant to fill out and submit back to them.
From there they email you and you can pay for additional physical copies of your marriage certificate.
You will need the following to apply for a marriage license in Utah:
For the ceremony itself you will need an officiant to perform the ceremony, and sign the license. As well as two witnesses to sign.
You can say private vows, and stand in epic views all you want though!
This is a grey area, it varies from county to county in Utah but for the most part fees seem to range from $40-50 for the license, and then an additional $50 for the ceremony if you choose to set up a ceremony through them.
Be prepared to pay these license fees in cash or check. Most times recorder offices do not accept card payments unless pre paid and showing a receipt of payment.
Getting married in Utah County is super easy these days! Their system is completely digital, so you won’t need to visit the office or deal with any paperwork.
Once you’ve finished your application, you’ll get an email with a special link and QR code – that’s your marriage license! Just forward this email (or at least the link) to whoever is performing your ceremony.
When your officiant clicks the link, they’ll be taken to a simple online portal where they can submit all the required information and add their digital signature. No printing or scanning needed!
As part of wrapping things up, your officiant will type in the names of your two witnesses. Utah law requires two witness names on the certificate, but don’t worry – they don’t actually need to sign anything themselves.
Getting married in Utah County? It’s all digital now! Instead of dealing with paper forms to fill out and sign, you’ll handle everything electronically with a digital signature.
The couple will send you a special link or QR code that takes you directly to the officiant submission portal. Once you’re there, just type in all the required information, including the names of two witnesses, hit the submit button, and voilĂ – your duties as the officiant are complete!
No paperwork to mail in or drop off – the system handles everything automatically. Quick, simple, and hassle-free!
One thing that can make your certificate your own is printing out a separate one that you can sign and even have your dog’s paw prints on it!
This of course is just for show and not something you have to turn in, but your officiant can still sign it as well as your witnesses and it can be a memory you add to a scrapbook or frame.
