Weather by Month in Washington (From an Elopement Photographer’s POV)
Washington weather has a reputation — and honestly? It’s earned. But knowing how it behaves month-to-month is what turns “risky” into intentional. This is how I help couples plan elopements that photograph beautifully and feel good to live inside.
Incase you need a Washington elopement rabbit hole to fall down, I wrote all the elopement guides so you can feel confident in planning your elopement here.

Weather by Month in Washington for Elopement Photography
January – February
Cold, moody, dramatic. Snow in the mountains, rain in lower elevations.
Photography POV: Soft light, misty forests, zero crowds. Winter elopements feel intimate and cinematic — but you need flexibility and a solid backup plan. Expect closed roads and not all locations are open.
March – April
Unpredictable in the best and worst ways. Rain, snow, sun — sometimes all in one day.
Photography POV: Lush greens start coming in, waterfalls are raging, skies are textured and interesting. Great for couples who care more about vibe than blue skies.
May
The transition month. Higher elevations may still have snow, lower areas start to open up.
Photography POV: One of my favorite months for contrast — snowy peaks + green valleys. Requires location expertise to avoid road closures.
June
Longer days, warmer temps, but still some lingering snow in alpine areas.
Photography POV: Golden light lasts forever. Wildflowers begin at lower elevations. Crowds start increasing, so timing matters.
July – August
Peak summer. Dry, warm, busy.
Photography POV: This is when sunrise elopements shine. Clear skies, epic views — but planning for crowds, heat, and permits is essential.
September
Quietly elite. Cooler temps, fewer people, stable weather.
Photography POV: Probably the best balance of light, access, and atmosphere all year. If I had to pick a “safe but stunning” month, this is it.
October
Moody, colorful, and short on daylight.
Photography POV: Fall colors in the mountains, dramatic skies, cozy layers. You trade predictability for emotion — and it’s usually worth it.
November – December
Stormy, wild, and deeply underrated.
Photography POV: Snow, fog, wind, and drama. Not for everyone — but incredible for couples who want something raw and real.

“But What If the Weather Does Its Thing?”
Whether the forecast says sunshine, sideways rain, or classic Washington chaos — that’s where I come in.
I don’t just show up and hope for the best. I help you:
- Choose locations that work with the weather
- Build timelines that protect the best light
- Create backup plans that don’t feel like compromises
- Stay present instead of stressed when conditions shift
Washington rewards couples who plan smart — not couples who chase perfect forecasts.
