Why Getting Married in Utah is Basically Like Being in a Fairy Tale (Just With More Red Rock)

As a Utah wedding photographer who’s spent more time chasing perfect light through slot canyons than I care to admit, I’ve got some thoughts.

Utah Wedding Photographer breaking down why you should consider getting married in Utah

Listen, we need to talk about Utah’s absolutely ridiculous collection of natural wedding venues. As a Utah wedding photographer who’s spent more time scouting hidden spots than I have organizing my camera gear (don’t judge), I’ve discovered some places that’ll make your wedding photos look like they’re straight out of National Geographic.

Utah Wedding Locations

First, let’s address the elephant in the room – Utah’s landscapes are showing off. Hard. Where else can you find yourself standing between towering red rock formations at sunrise, lounging by an alpine lake at lunch, and watching the sunset paint the salt flats like you’re on another planet? It’s like Mother Nature couldn’t decide what to wear, so she put on everything at once. And somehow, it works.

Salt Flats of Utah for Wedding

Speaking of Salt Flats – want to feel like you’re getting married on the moon, but without the whole space suit situation? Bonneville’s got you covered. Literally. Miles of pristine white salt crystals creating the most epic backdrop for your “we did the thing” photos. Just maybe don’t lick the ground. (Yes, people ask. No, I don’t recommend it.)

La Sal Mountains

Then there’s the La Sal Mountains, casually hanging out like they’re not the most dramatic backdrop ever. Picture this: you’re exchanging vows with red rock arches in the foreground and snow-capped peaks behind you. I mean, come on. That’s not even fair to other wedding venues.

Canyons, Reds of the rocks and the sunset

Don’t even get me started on the slot canyons. These hidden gems are like nature’s cathedral, with light beams that’ll make you look like you’re getting married in a literal ray of sunshine. Though fair warning – your hair might not stay perfect, but I promise the photos will be worth it.

And for those who want to really make their guests work for it? The Wasatch Range is just sitting there, with enough stunning alpine lakes to make Switzerland jealous. Nothing says “epic wedding” quite like a mountaintop ceremony with views that’ll make your wedding party forget they had to hike to get there.

National Parks of Utah to get married in

Also if you want more of an adventure let’s elope instead! You have your pick of national parks like Zion or Bryce Canyon or Arches all in a multi-day drive begging to be done.

You could even pop over to the state park with pink sand dunes. The way the light hits that place at sunrise is unreal.

Final thoughts on Utah Weddings

Here’s the thing about having a Utah wedding – you don’t need elaborate decorations or fancy venues. The landscape does all the heavy lifting. Your wedding arch? How about a 65-million-year-old rock formation? Your dance floor? A pristine desert valley under more stars than you knew existed.

As your Utah wedding photographer, I’m basically a location scout, weather-watcher, and epic-moment-capturer all rolled into one. I know exactly when the light hits Dead Horse Point just right, and which hidden meadow in the Uintas will make you feel like you’re the only two people on Earth.

Because let’s be real – your love story is unique, so shouldn’t your wedding location be too? Utah’s got places that’ll make your ceremony feel like an adventure, your photos look like art, and your memories last longer than that last piece of wedding cake in your freezer.

Ready to plan something extraordinary? Let’s make your wedding as epic as the landscape you’re getting married in.

(Just remember to bring water. Like, lots of water. Trust me on this one.)

Now, who’s ready to plan something epic?
