If you’re a wedding or elopement photographer, you know how important detail shots are – but sometimes these photos can be extra tricky and challenging to capture.

As a wedding and elopement photographer myself, detail photos used to scare me, because how do you make it look good and do it quickly? And I always wanted to know how I could get the best wedding detail photos.

I remember that I was always running around grabbing random jewelry boxes or quads forbid just using my phone to prop things on.. but then the lightbulb went off. I could fix this problem that we collectively as wedding photographers all have — as funny as it is to use random objects to get the job done, I could make this tool so that I 100% had something I could count on and use every single time. Detail photos now are easy, quick to arrange, and honestly fun to re-arrange because you can just get creative again using The Box Set.

All that said I want to give you some tips on how you too can get the best wedding detail photos, more info on The Box Set, and some creative ideas you can try with The Box Set to make your detail photos fun, multi-leveled, and interesting to look at.

How You Can Get The Best Wedding Detail Photos

Detail photos don’t have to be something you continue to dread or worry about how well they are going to turn out.

Here are my top tips on how you can get the best photos because the days of using tissues under our invites need to be over!

Set Aside Enough Time for the Detail Photos

I know your contract may state you are with your clients for 8, 10, or 12 hours but I actually encourage photographers who mentor with me to show up the extra 30 minutes, you don’t really have to be photographing but give yourself that mental reset so are fully in the mindset and ready to go. It’s always better to be early than late 😉

Practice Flat Lays at Home

If your client sends you invites in the mail, practice! The more you do it not on client time the better you will get when the moment counts. You can grab florals from the local farmers market, use their invites, use your own engagement ring etc, but practice practice practice!

Collect The Client’s Details

As soon as you can collect all of your client’s details. This way you won’t have to spend any extra time trying to find everything that you need for your detail photos.

I personally collect all my client’s details ahead of time. This is actually a part of my pre-wedding/elopement workflow that reminds the client to have everything ready to go in a shoe box the night before so they don’t forget anything and I can just grab that box and get started playing.

I then use the Box Set by starting with dumping all the boxes out and putting what I want in the center. I usually make that the tallest so I play with what box height I want with the smaller details. I’ve found that this process works the best and the quickest for me.

Elevate Your Details

This is where The Box Set for details comes in handy. It’s remarkable the difference that having The Box Set makes in how your final photos turn out and how much easier it is to take your detail shots. Obviously going to not so humbling brag you need mine over others because mine is travel-friendly for luxury weddings to travel adventure elopements

Using The Box Set will make it super easy to elevate your client’s details. Elevating your details is just like when you pull the subject away from a wall, it’s a little, minor tweak, but adds so much depth to the photos. Trust me on this one – you’ll want to try it out at your next wedding or elopement and you’ll be obsessed with the difference that it makes.

Before creating The Box Set I had gotten so weirdly creative with details. You know you’ve done it, too.. using your phone or your CF card holder to balance details; it’s not consistent and you waste so much time just balancing your client’s details.

But with my tool, The Box Set you’ll be able to make your detail photos stand out and be full of dimension. Also, you’ll no longer have to worry about hoping you can find random objects in the getting-ready spaces to use under the details. My Box Set takes all the guesswork out and you can bring it to every wedding knowing that you’ll be able to create with whatever you’re given, no matter how big any objects or details are that you are given.

The Box Set: A Styling Kit for Wedding and Elopement Photographers

If you want to make your detail photos fun and dynamic then you’ll want The Box Set. This is perfect for luxury wedding photographers or elopement photographers like me who are always on a plane and need something easy to pack and carry with them.

Speaking of traveling, The Box Set is a completely nesting set, everything fits into each other and has a snug lid so it won’t fall apart whether you toss it in your camera bag, carry-on, or passenger seat and it takes up less room than your beloved 28-70 Canon lens.

Some other notable features of The Box Set are:

  • The nesting box set allows you to create dreamy flat lay images
  • It’s home-made by a wedding photographer (aka me 😉 )
  • It’s lightweight and strong
  • You can choose semi-clear or white coloring (But don’t be shy, we have a mystery color or you can request something more on brand to you!)
  • You have two options to choose from: the OG Box Set or Mini Box Set
  • You can also choose to have lots of layers or minimal lays and stack the boxes to keep things on the same plane of field

…and so much more!

My goal as a wedding photographer has always been to make the wedding industry a better place,  for clients and vendors alike, and to make our jobs easier.

The best part of The Box Set is that the possibilities are endless for creating with this tool and you’ll love how they complement your detail shots.
